Mmemezi hit headlines this week when he suddenly resigned as Local Government MEC, almost two months after allegations first surfaced that he had misused government funds.
He is, however, still a member of the provincial legislature.
The Democratic Alliance’s Jack Bloom said this means he will earn a salary of over R800,000 a year.
“If he’s unfit to be an MEC, then he’s also unfit to be an MPL [member of the Provincial Legislature].”
