Roodepoort — In a previous story the Roodepoort National And International reported on the case of the two dogs, Sasha and Surge, who went missing after being left in the care of Dr Patrick Thenga, a vet at the Blairgowrie Veterinary Clinic, by Greg Byrne to be put down, but Thenga never did so. Sasha was found and placed at the Roodepoort SPCA, and Surge was found dead next to a road in SOWETO.
Yesterday, 8 February, Faaiza Asmal left her cat, Sultan, at the very same Veterinary Clinic as where the two dogs were dropped off, to clean a wound on his nose. “We were told that he would have to stay overnight,” said Asmal.

The following day Thenga told the cat's owners that the cat had gone missing whilst having a bath. Asmal and her husband Muhammed said they were refused entry when they arrived at the clinic. According to Muhammed they were told that Thenga was not there. “Then one of the workers standing at the door told us that we didn’t have proof that we left the cat there.” The Asmal's tried to contact Thenga in the days that followed their beloved pet's dissappearance but he never returned their calls.
“This is not the way to handle this matter,” Muhammed continued.
The Asmals found Sultan in the early hours of Saturday morning after nights of driving around the suburbs bordering the clinic.
The cat had recovered and was doing well.
The Asmal's said they had spent R1 400 on printing leaflets, which they had distributed in the area.
Chris Theron, the managing director at the Roodepoort SPCA, was informed of the incident by the Asmals. He said it had affected the public’s confidence in vets.
“We are extremely concerned and we believe this needs to be investigated,” he said.
