The motive behind the address was to achieve nation building, with ways suggested, there are high hopes that a lot will be implemented this financial year and in those to come.
However it is unwise to expect fireworks as this has been done before, the nation has been addressed, promises made, some kept but some have not. The nation must not be taken by figures that look good on paper but with not much implementation.
With praises from his compatriots, Zuma made a speech deliverance that showed he was somewhat adamant in finding ways to introduce and instill change.
Issues on Education, Health and Social Development, Rural development, Fight against crime and decent work initiatives took greater priority in the speech.
In reflection to the previous years, it was reported that the job sector experienced 1.1 % increase from the year 2011 to date, with 365 000 employed, these figures are said to be more in the retail industry and on the temporal, which will draw the nation back to square one eventually, temporal solutions do not fit well to these long time existing problems
It was also announced that the Matric pass rate is in great shape as it increased from 67.8% in 2010 to 70.2% in 2011, this could be an indication of great success or it could be saying some thing about the quality of our educational system.
As for Rural development, the government has began building brick house as part of their HOP plan but still their are some people who live in inhumane circumstances, which includes trying to live without water, or having to walk a great distance to get a reliable source of water, as well as well as living without electricity, this happening more and more in our own community, especially if we look at the Princess informal settlement.
The Department of Health and social development says that they are committed to paying monies owed to the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), but lives have been sacrificed, reaction after tragedies should not become a norm.
We are still a recovering nation with regards to our history, but does that mean that those who were previously advantaged will be considered for opportunities that are now making their way to the persons that are currently disadvantaged.
It is then that the nation ought to reflect back on the years that have been, what is it that was promised that became fulfilled?
It would be great to provide proof that is readable and understandable to the masses. It is with great concern that things seem to be taken lightly, on the surface research is conducted to make for good figures. It is with proof that our cities are in some what of a mess, this lets the question arise, why is there a struggle in the access of basic things such as water, which is essential for livelihood?
One would think that South Africa is also using the same caste principal as in India, many are clueless as to how our systems operates in terms of awarding the disadvantaged and less fortunate with opportunities.
Do they not cast the same vote? this is where inequality sticks out like a sore thumb.
