. . .BUT. . . now a new kind of bully is on the rise, and is doing more harm than he's predecessor. He is called THE CYBERBULLY.
The term "cyberbullying" was first coined and defined by Canadian educator and anti-bullying activist Bill Belsey, as "the use of information and communication technologies to support deliberate, repeated, and hostile behavior by an individual or group, that is intended to harm others." Cyberbullying can be as simple as continuing to send e-mail to someone who has said they want no further contact with the sender, but it may also include threats, sexual remarks, pejorative labels (i.e., hate speech), ganging up on victims by making them the subject of ridicule in forums, and posting false statements as fact aimed at humiliation.
A 15 - year - old girl from Krugersdorp is facing assualt charges after she allegedly attacked a fellow pupil with a glass bottle. A friend of the girl filmed the incident on his cellphone which occured last week Monday. Lucky Biyela, the Investigating officer, said that very careful procedures were being followed because a minor was being charged with a serious crime. “It is a matter that will go to court,” Biyela said.
The principal of Krugersdorp High School (KHS), Ivan Bailey, said that an external disciplinary hearing by the governing body was done for the attack on Tuesday night to be investigated. Bailey said that “A principal cannot expel a learner. There is a disciplinary procedure that has to be followed, and this has been done." Bailey continued to say that the attack was the aftermath of "shocking conversations" on Blackberry's messenger service (BBM) and also Facebook.
“We do have school counsellors involved,” he said, “Cyberbullying is something we take very seriously.”
So school's are not even safe any more, what is next?
