South Africa — The man who allegedly his wife and disabled son in the Johannesburg suburb,  Linden,  is fit to stand trial according to a report released today,  08 February.
Ben Engelbrecht (51),  allegedly used scarfs to strangle his wife,  Ina (41),  and their son,  Kobus (21) in the family home in May 2011. Engelbrecht tried to commit suicide afterwards.
"According to a psychiatric report, compiled by two psychiatrists who observed Engelbrecht at Sterkfontein Hospital, he was morally capable of understanding wrongdoing at the time of the incident, and could have decided not to commit a crime," BEELD reported.
Also according to the report Engelbrecht was not suicidal and he showed no obvious signs of having a mental illness or being a sufferer of depression.
The case was transferred from the Johannesburg district court to the high court on Tuesday. - News24
