South Africa — The charges against one of the adults in the Soweto rape video case has been withdrawn, this was due to a lack of evidence against him, whilst the other two adults were released on bail, after their court hearing in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court today, 20 June.
The 10 minute long cellphone footage of the incident first saw the light in April, three weeks after the girl was reported missing.
Faces, genitals and several acts of penetration are clearly visible,
and her attackers can be heard offering her R2 in exchange for her
silence.
The state did not oppose bail, which was set at R1500 for each of the accused.
Lawyer, William Carrim, said they welcomed the withdrawal of charges.
Now six accused, three adults and three minors, are out on bail.
The matter will return to court on 6 September.
