South Africa — Stefan F. Joubert (Junior RNAI reporter) writes — Monday morning 8:30,  Afrikaans musician,  painist and songwriter,  Christa Steyn,  died after a long battle with cancer at her house in Pretoria.

Christa Steyn was diagnosed with breast and liver cancer a year ago.  Thankfully,  her son Douw and daughter Magdaleen Grobler were at her side when it happened.

Steyn repeatedly asked for her close friend,  Coenie de Villiers,  to cut his Cape Town visit short to come say goodbye to her.

Monday de Villiers told the beeld that he is not "concerned where she is tonight,"

"She was a total inspiration to me," he added,  "She always laughed a lot through the cancer,  it did not get her down,"

Tributes where starting to pour in minutes after the musician's death was announced.  Steve Hofmeyer tweeted late on Monday saying "Jammer Christa Steyn.  RIP.  Ons sal jou nooit vergeet nie.  Groete aan Lucas," meaning 'Sorry Christa Steyn.  RIP.  We will never forget you.  Say hi to Lucas."

Steyn's 54th birthday would have been celebrated on 15 June.
